The Agios Neofytos Monastery.
The Monastery is located in 10 km to the north from Paphos if to go on road to Polis.
St. Neofytos was born in 1134 in the area of Lefkarty and it is known as the author of religious products and historical chronicles who and until are considered as sources of our knowledge of events of that time when Cyprus Byzantines where the owners.
In 1159 Neofytos has lodged to the north of Paphos, and as it is considered, has cut down with his own hands in a rock three caves which have been decorated by frescos later. In these caves he lived as the eremite, and its numerous followers, rendering around habitable district, and eventually have formed a community.
As a result there became a monastery named by a name of St. Neofytos which has been buried here, in a crypt, a its remains have been found out only in 1750. Today relics of St. Neofytos are stored in monastic church. Cut down rock cells it is possible to examine daily.
